Toronto neighbourhoods with the most new immigrants

Toronto and the surrounding area continue to be the top destination for new Canadians.

Last year alone, over 150,000 newcomers settled in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area). Just under half of Toronto residents were born outside of Canada, and over half of the population of Markham, Richmond Hill, and Mississauga are immigrants.

We conducted an in-depth analysis of the 2021 Census data to see which neighbourhoods in the City of Toronto attracted the highest number of newcomers. The census classifies as new (or recent) immigrants those who obtained their landed immigrant or permanent resident status between 2016 and 2021.
